Framingham Winemaker - Andrew HedleyAndrew Hedley was born in 1965 in Gateshead, near Newcastle, England where he grew up and received his education. He was awarded a degree in Applied Chemistry in 1988, and completed a PhD in Synthetic organic chemistry in 1993, both form the University of Northumbria.

Andrew came to New Zealand in January 1998 with his wife Debra, to work for Rapaura Vintners where he learnt his trade working alongside several successful Marlborough winemakers.

In August 2001 Andrew joined Framingham as Assistant Winemaker, working closely with Ant Mackenzie finishing off the 2001 wines and developing the Framingham style. With the departure of Ant in September 2002, Andrew took over the reins of winemaker at Framingham.

Whilst having enthusiasm for all wine styles, Andrew’s special interest is in the aromatic whites, especially Riesling. In the future he hopes to spend some time in the great Riesling regions of Europe, talking to winemakers and exploring the huge diversity in styles.

Andrew relies heavily on excellent support from Framingham’s full time cellar staff, Wayne Le Cren and Anna Kingscote, to ensure the quality of the Framingham product.
