F-SERIES
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2009
An atypical style of Sauvignon Blanc (for Marlborough) that is textural with tastes of earth and mineral rather than fruit. Fruit with good exposure to light was hand harvested from a discrete one acre block on the estate that we call the Quail Trail. Bunch pressed with no juice clarification and fermented with uninoculated yeasts, left on lees for 11 months prior to bottling. Harmless crystals may form in the bottle.
CRITICAL COMMENT
"F-Series ia an 'alternative' wine style not made every vintage. A selected parcel of grapes is hand harvested, whole-bunch-pressed and allowed to build extra body and complexity by spending 11 months on the yeast lees. The result is a wine with impressive weight and mouth feel and a flavour profile that retains typical Sauvignon Blanc varietal character (mineral, tree fruit, melon and subtle herbal notes) with the addition of toasty lees character. I feel that this is a style that deserves to be encouraged, not the least because I like it a lot. It's great food wine."
